Harry Barton Townsley 1860

Harry Barton Townsley (GG Uncle) was born in 1860. He died in Downingtown, Pa. on June 10, 1932, he was 72. He resided at 117 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, Pa. in 1922 and in Sadsbury, Pa. in 1891. Occupation: Partner with his brothers in a Traction Threshing business and then in a business providing wood to Lukens Steel. Cause of death: Heart Attack.

On Christmas Eve of 1891, when Harry Barton was 31, he married Emma F. Slaymaker, daughter of Howard Slaymaker & Mary, in Gum Tree. Born on July 5, 1867 in Lancaster County, Pa., Emma F. died in Chester County Hospital, West Chester, Pa. on June 11, 1923, she was 55. She was buried on June 14, 1923 in Upper Octorara Presbyterian Cemetery. She resided at 117 East Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, Pa. in 1922 and resided in Sadsbury, Pa. in 1891.

In honor of their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Harry B. Townsley, East Downingtown, were tendered a reception on Sunday. They received some useful gifts and a fine dinner was enjoyed.
Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Walter MacNeal, of Rudyard, Montana; Mr. Thomas Slaymaker, of Picture Butte, Canada; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Martin and family; Mr. and Mrs. Rolla Martin and Son; Mr. and Mrs. Townsley and family, Mr. James Townsley, Mr. Charles Johnson, of Chester, Pa.; Miss Elizabeth Waltz, of Exton; Mr. and Mrs. Harry B. Emma F. Townsley. Died June 11th, in the Chester County Hospital, at West Chester, Emma F. (Slaymaker) Townsley, in her 56th year. Deceased was born in Lancaster County, July 5th, 1867, and was the daughter of the late Howard and Mary Slaymaker. She had been a patient sufferer since January of the present year and a few days ago she was taken to the hospital, where a vain effort was made to save her life. Ever a kind and loving wife and mother, her loss is deeply felt. She is survived by her husband, Harry B. Townsley, and the following children: Howard, Sara, Harriett, Anna, Walter and Sophia, at home, and Hazel, wife of Jacob Miller. Also the following brothers and sisters: Ambrose Slaymaker and Mrs. Howard Martin, of Coatesville; Harry, Paul and Thomas Slaymaker and Mrs. Labon Burnap, of Barons, Canada; and Mrs. Joseph Simons and Mrs. Walter McNeal, of Rudyard, Montana. Townsley -- In Chester County Hospital, on June 11, Emma F., wife of Harry B. Townsley, in the 56th year of her age. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral without further notice from her late residence, 117 E. Lancaster avenue, Downingtown, on Thursday, June 14. Meet at the house at 2 o'clock p.m., standard time. Internment at Octorara Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday evening 7 to 9. Daily Local news. 6/12/1923

Funeral. The funeral of the late Mrs. Harry B. Townsley was held from her late residence on Lancaster Avenue. The attendance was quite large, although many friends called the evening before. The body reposed in a handsome casket and was surrounded with many floral sprays. Services were in charge of Rev. J. Rodney Russell, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. The poll bearers were Donald Martin, Charles McGowan, Jay McGowan, John Slaymaker and F. E. Slaymaker. Interment was made at Octorara Cemetery. Daily Local News. 6/15/1923
