Charles Hoffman Thomas 1849

Anthony Wayne THOMAS (4C4R)

Child:
Charles Hoffman Thomas (5C3R) was born in 1849. He resided in Bedford, Lawrence So., RFD #6, Indiana on August 5, 1905. Occupation: Farmer (1905).

This is a letter from Charles Hoffman to Benjamin Franklin Meredith II:

Aug. 5th, 1905,

Mr. B. F. Meredith, Jr. Coatesville, Pa. R. F. D. #2.

Dear Sir: I would have written sooner but I was in the midst of our harvest and wished to re-read a book, family History, before writing you. I am 56 years old and a farmer in not the best of health so this is my excuse, more promptly next time.

My Grandmother on my father's side her mother was a Meredith. She married a Hoffman or Hoofman spelled both ways. Some of the Hoffmans live in your county. The Meredith family has a History which is part of Wales...Now dear sir, I have given you a careful direct line of the Meredith family in Wales according to Owen M. Edwards.Grandmother's people came to this country from Wales in 1600. The first is David Meredith whose son John M. married a Miss Cloyd of England whose son John M. he had 6 children, David, Sarah, Mary, Margaret, my Great-Grandmother who died Dec. 13, 1852 aged 89, buried in Grove graveyard. She married Jacob Hoffman, their son (sic) Thomasine Hoffman married my Grandfather, Hazael Thomas. Their youngest son Anthony Wayne Thomas is my father. He is dead. Now dear sir, I have given you an account of myself in a direct line where the Thomas, Meredith, Hoffman and Pothero unite. In my Grandparents I can give you a more minute account of some of the families.

Is there such a place as Coventry graveyard in your County, somewhere near Downingtown? My Grandfather Hazael Thomas is buried there. Grandmother Thomasine Thomas was buried at Grove Church with the Hoffman Family. Grandfather Hazael Thomas was one of the original members of the 7 day Baptists. The David Thomas you mentioned is no doubt one of my Great Grandparents. Grandfather's father's name was the same as his own, Hazael. Philip, John, David were common given names in the family. Do you know one Richard Fisher or any of his children? He and my father and his brothers were boys together. he lived near the old home place near Downingtown.

Please if possible give me the address of some of the possible Families who you think will answer my letters:
Hoffman, Thomas, Pothero families

Is the Pothero family extinct?

Philip Pothero married a Miss Iddings in 1689. He had 7 daughters and one son. David Thomas his brother Philip Thomas and Isaac Wayne married three Pothero sisters. Now my dear sir if you can read this I would love for you to answer my questions as far as you can and give me any other information you can. I would love to visit Chester County if I could get done harvesting yesterday.

My best respects to your father and yourself and family for I feel we are distant related.
Please answer soon

Respectfully yours S. C.
Chas. Hoffman Thomas,

P. S. ap or ad in Welsh means son or related to.

Wow, hey Francy,
I have tried to get in touch with you, but my letters came back addressee unknown. I looked up your number, I'll give you a call. We got a lot of years to cover and you can correct any errors I made in the family tree you know of. You can also explain your email name. 1978 is the year Kelli was born as was Laurel, I know.
